What is the mission of the Wendell G. Mohling Foundation? We honor the memory of Wendell Mohling, by awarding a $1000.00 scholarship to one Kansas teacher of Science. The award is to be used to attend an NSTA National or Regional conference, of the winner's choosing. Applications are due September 24th. The application can be downloaded from this site or from the KATS website, www.KATS.org or contact the foundation. Be sure to comply with ALL of the requirements, including that you have NEVER attended an NSTA conference. Be sure to sign your application. It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of Carol Mohling who was the founder of the Wendell Mohling Foundation. We will continue her vision of supporting the Science Teachers of Kansas and Science Education. Carol was many things to many people, almost too numerous to list. Above all, she loved her people and family fiercely. She stayed connected and involved to the best of her ability and was the best grandma that Jett and Alatna could have asked for.      How can you get involved?         - Contribute money to the Wendell G. Mohling Foundation         - Donate an item for the fundraising auction in April of each year.         - Include the Foundation in your tax-deductible giving and in your will.         - Make a donation to the Foundation in memory of a loved one.         - Purchase a Kim Poor Space Print to benefit the Foundation. Please see the link on the Resources Page.         - Encourage a teacher to apply for this award. Wendell knew from experience, the personal and professional benefits gained by attending conventions. As a teacher, he also knew the financial burden of finding the money to attend conventions. It was his wish, that this Foundation be started in Kansas and his hope that it would spread to other states. His energy for science education knew no boundaries. 'A Dreamer Lives for Eternity' 'As a once young science educator in Kansas, I will long remember the often featured evening presentations at KATS KAMP, 'A Toast to Denali'. His contributions were many and varied and so outstanding. He leaves a huge legacy to the science education community.'         - Kathy Matthews 'I loved this guy for the wonderful man he was and for what he stood for - absolute excellence in everything that he did, and Wendell did a lot. He touched the minds of thousands of friends, teachers and students. Thousands of students received a better science education because of Wendell. This is his legacy and it shall live on forever.'         - Ken Bingman 'Wendell was my hero as I taught beside him at Shawnee Mission Northwest. He was my pal, my mentor, and in some cases my counselor, and I became a better teacher while watching him do his magic. He led the way by his talent for teaching.'         - Al Frisby 'This planet is a better place because Wendell passed through. What a gentle man he was.'         - Steve Warren 'Because of Wendell and his excitement for teaching and learning in Shawnee Mission, at NSTA and at KATS, I have stayed in elementary education and teaching science.
